Why have I talked so much about Peanut sleeping? Why am I obsessed with sleep? Why don't I just let the baby do whatever she wants, whenever she wants?

It is important you're baby gets more than 45 min naps for the following reasons:
1. It can be so tiring for both Mum and baby. Mum barely has time to herself to shower, take a nap, do laundry, etc.
This is my daily routine: I play with Peanut during playtime, making sure she's properly stimulated; and try to get her to sleep during most of her nap time. If you haven't tried it, it is surprisingly tiring. Who knew caring for a baby was so exhausting?
2. For baby, a short nap is not very helpful...anything less than 1 hour, and especially less than 45 minutes is really of no use to the baby – it needs to be longer to be restorative. Babies do most of their learning and processing of they day's activities when they sleep. So if their naps are short, they don't have ample time to do the processing and developing they need to.
I certainly want Peanut to process and develop. How else is she going to get into Harvard later?!! :)
3. Good day sleep begets good nights sleep for many babies (but not all). Some babies can't sleep well during the night because they didn't get proper rest during the day, so they have a hard time falling asleep and/or staying asleep. For other babies though, poor short naps never affect night sleep.
Luckily, Peanut still sleeps very well during the night. She usually gets 11-12 hours a night, with 1 feeding and 2 changes of diaper.
